THE MATRIX CAUSES FUND

Grants up to £5,000 are available to UK organisations that promote access to justice (particularly for people trying to get support to meet their basic personal needs), equality of opportunity and a sustainable environment in the UK and/or overseas.

o Funder: Matrix Causes (the Matrix Causes Fund (MCF) is a charitable fund administered by the legal company Matrix Chambers. Since 2003, Matrix has committed over £2 million to national and international charitable causes.
o Who can apply: UK registered charities (organisations not registered as a charity may also be considered for a grant).

Matrix Chambers is a barristers’ chambers located in London, Geneva and Brussels. The Matrix Causes Fund (MCF) is a charitable fund provided by the legal company Matrix Chambers and managed by the charity Prism the Gift Fund. Since 2003, Matrix has committed over £2 million to national and international charitable causes.
The Matrix Causes Fund (MCF) provides support to organisations which promote:
o Access to justice (particularly for people trying to get support to meet their basic personal needs).
o Equality of opportunity, and/or
o A sustainable environment.
Applications are particularly welcome from organisations in the UK whose focus is on supporting the needs of vulnerable persons such as (please note this is not an exclusive list):
o Prisoners.
o Asylum seekers.
o People with mental health difficulties.
o People (particularly children) with disabilities, and
o Women in refuges.
The MCF provides one-off grants of up to £5,000, or funding of up to £3,000 per year for 3 years, to UK registered charities. A number of case studies of previously funded organisations can be found on the Matrix Causes Fund website (scroll down the page).
The Matrix Causes Fund may be able to consider applications from organisations that are not registered as a charity in the UK. There is a separate application form for applications for overseas projects and from organisations that are not registered charities.

The next round of the Fund opens at 10am on Tuesday 1st July 2025 with a deadline of 5pm on Thursday 30th September 2025.
Each cycle has a maximum of 30 applications accepted for funding. Please note that the eligibility criteria is currently under review. The updated guidance and application form will be uploaded to the Matrix website ahead of the next application window opening in July.
