The Lennox Hannay Charitable Trust has wide-ranging charitable objectives which are designed to enable it to respond to different needs as they arise over time.

The Trust makes one-off and recurring grants to UK registered charities. In its last financial year these ranged from small grants of under £2,000 to around £50,000.

The most significant areas supported in recent years are:

o The advancement of health and the saving of lives.
o The advancement of Education.
o The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
o The prevention or relief of poverty, 
and
o The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science.

The Trust’s principal source of its income is from its investments. No significant changes to its level of income are envisaged in the coming years.

During the year ended 31st March 2024, the Trust awarded grants totalling £730,350. Awards ranged from under £2,000 to £50,000 (to the Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, which raises funds for the Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge).

A list of all grant recipients is provided on page 17 of the Trust’s annual accounts, while page 18 provides a useful analysis of how grants were made. In addition to the areas listed above, this includes grants to charities working in the fields of:

o Amateur sport.
o Animal welfare.
o Citizenship and community development, 
and
o Environment.

Grants are also very occasionally awarded for religious causes.

Each application considered on its own merits. The trustees meet twice annually to review applications, which may be made at any time in writing, addressed to:
