It is often hard for individuals in the workplace to talk about their caring responsibilities and support needs as these can be difficult issues to raise. Managers can find it hard to initiate or respond to a conversation about caring too. The Carer’s Leave Act came into force on 6th April 2024, groundbreaking legislation that will see more employees identifying as unpaid carers.

With over 120,000 of the 400,000 unpaid carers in Wales juggling employment and care, the Act is a welcome step on the journey towards paid carers’ leave becoming a legal right.

This session will help you to

  • understand what carers need in the workplace
  • start the conversation about caring and what works well in the workplace.
  • hear how the act impacts your organisation and which workplace policies this impacts on
  • how Carers Wales can offer support.
