__________
Formerly Known as the Home Instead Senior Care Bring Joy Foundation, Home Instead Charities UK provides small grants to grassroots UK charities and community organisations that are addressing mental health and isolation in older people aged 55 and over.
Grants, which are generally for £1,500 and under, are available to support wellbeing activities and projects that help prevent social isolation and loneliness among older people.
The following grants are available:
1. Grants of up to £500 for small grassroots community groups, and
2. Grants of up to £1,500 for small local registered charities. Grants of over £1,500 may be considered for exceptional projects.
Examples of the type of project that could be funded through the scheme (please note this is not an exclusive list) include:
o Activities such as yoga or a guest speaker for a group, such as a local historian.
o One off activities, such as a day trip or a Summer outing, and
o Regular weekly or monthly events and activities, such as a weekly cinema club, a “Knit and Natter” club or a lunch club.
Applications that have a connection to a local Home Instead office are likely to be prioritised. Details of the locations of Home Instead offices can be found under the ‘Locations’ tab on the charity’s website.
Please note that the charity will only fully fund a grant request where the organisation holds less than 3 months’ operating costs in reserve. For organisations that have more than this, up to 50% of the project costs will be funded.
Home Instead normally publishes details of how grants were allocated in its annual accounts. However, the accounts for the year ended 31st December 2023 have been abridged and do not contain information about the distribution of grants. The accounts for the previous year provide more information. During the year ended 31 December 2022, Home Instead Charities awarded 43 grants totalling £41,087. Some examples of funded charities are provided on pages 3 and 4 of the charity’s annual accounts for the year.
Funding is not available for:
o Core operating costs.
o Funding for the same project more than once in any given year.
o Projects with a capital and revenue element.
o Salaries, or
o Setting up costs.
At the start of 2024, in order to manage the volume of applications it was receiving, Home Instead Charities introduced a series of application rounds. These replaced the opportunity to apply at any time.
1. Applications received in January will be processed and awarded in February.
2. Applications received in April will be processed and awarded in May (the current application round).
3. Applications received in July will be processed and awarded in August, and
4. Applications received in October will be processed and awarded in November.
The next application deadline is Wednesday 30th April 2025.
To apply, eligible organisations are required to complete the online form available on the Home Instead Charities website (scroll down to the foot of the page).
