Montgomeryshire only – Windfall Fund

New Windfall grants set to boost sustainability projects in Montgomeryshire – Applications open for community groups to apply for grants up to £30,000
Applications are now open to the Windfall scheme which is offering grants mainly for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. In this first round of funding, community groups in Montgomeryshire are invited to apply, and priority will be given to the Carno, Caersws, Trefeglwys, Dwyriw, Llanbrynmair and Llanerfyl Community Council areas.
Low carbon, shared, community and active travel initiatives as well as educational activities in pursuit of sustainable development may also be funded. Beneficiaries in the past have included village halls and other community buildings, football clubs, energy cooperatives, training organisations and climate action groups. Successful applicants could receive a grant of up to 100% of the project value, up to a maximum single grant of £30,000.
Windfall is the working name of the Mid Wales Community Energy Trust – a not-for-profit organisation that aims to link income from renewable energy with rural regeneration through sustainable energy projects. Grant aid to community projects uses money provided voluntarily by developers of energy generation and other developments. Current available funding is from Amegni Ltd, which owns the Carno Wind Farm. Windfall’s voluntary Directors have created a brand new website https://www.windfall.wales/ over the winter as well as streamlining the grant application process.
Chair of Windfall, Andy Bull, said: “We’re delighted to announce this first round of funding. I’d like to encourage community groups to pitch in and apply for grants that could make a tangible difference to local people, especially those around the Carno wind farm. Perhaps it’s about installing renewable energy measures or maybe a project that will lower a community’s carbon footprint – we’re open to considering a wide range of proposals.”
Sustainability charity Severn Wye Energy Agency is managing the grant scheme to distribute funds to successful applicants. Severn Wye’s Director for Wales, Dave Gittins, said:
‘This funding will give an important boost to sustainability projects across Montgomeryshire. We’re excited to see what ideas come forward and to help local communities progress on their low-carbon journeys.’
