THE MORRISONS FOUNDATION
Capital and project grants of up to £10,000 are available for local, regional and national registered charities in England, Scotland and Wales that are tackling poverty and social deprivation, enhancing community spaces, facilities and services, and improving health and wellbeing.

The Morrisons Foundation was established to provide financial support for registered charities in England, Scotland and Wales. It awards capital and project grants (but not grants towards a charity’s running costs) for specific community projects which improve people’s lives and will match fund the money that Morrisons colleagues/employees raise for charity.
Registered charities applying to the Foundation should meet at least one of the following funding objectives:
1. Tackling poverty and social deprivation.
2. Enhancing community spaces, facilities and services, and
3. Improving health and wellbeing.
Local, regional and national charities may apply for a grant of up to £10,000.
Small charities (i.e. those with an annual income of less than £1 million) are prioritised, although charities with an income of over £1 million are not exempt from applying.
During the year ended 31st October 2023, the Foundation awarded 601 (2022: 717) grants totalling £1,559,118 (2022: £2,809,492). The Foundation does not provide a list of grantees on its website or in its annual report.
Over the last 2 years, grants have been awarded against the following headings:
o Health (hospice care, specialist equipment, support groups): £919,880 (2022: £1,320,461).
o Social Investment (community transport, foodbanks, building refurbishments, community clubs): £311,824 (2022: £0).
o Education (reading support, employment programmes, special needs schools): £0 (2022: £365,234).
o Other (search and rescue services, mentoring support, support for carers): £327,415 (2022: £1,123,797).
Funding is not available for:
o Advertising, promotion or marketing of events or services.
o Animal charities, unless the objective is to improve the lives of vulnerable or disadvantaged people.
o Community Interest Companies (CICs) and other forms of social enterprise.
o Conferences and seminars.
o Equipment which will be retained by individuals rather than the charity.
o Event sponsorship.
o Expeditions for recreation, overseas travel or overseas appeals.
o Fundraising events.
o Grants, bursaries etc. to individuals.
o Part-funded projects.
o Projects outside of England, Scotland or Wales.
o Projects which could harm the reputation of the Foundation.
o Promotion of religious or political messaging.
o Salaries and other running costs, or for ongoing service delivery.
o Sports-based charities, unless the objective is to improve the lives of vulnerable or disadvantaged people, or
o Work that is primarily the statutory responsibility of public agencies
Applications may be made at any time via the online application form on the Foundation’s website.
Please note that it can take the Foundation up to 12 weeks to make a decision on an application. Unsuccessful applicants are restricted from reapplying for 12 months.
